Mr. Rochell Bates
Rochell Bates is a dedicated educator with over 30 years of experience. A graduate of Southern University, he began his career as an engineer but found his true calling in education after mentoring students. Returning to Louisiana, he started as a teacher and worked his way up to become assistant principal, then principal of Kentwood High School. He now serves as an academic advisor for high schools at the central office, supporting principals in achieving their academic goals.
Deeply community-driven, Rochell has served as the mayor of Kentwood and values his long-standing relationships within the district, enjoying the collaboration and shared expertise of his colleagues. He is passionate about Southeast Community Health Systems and its vital role in supporting rural communities, which inspired him to join the board.
Outside of work, he enjoys relaxing, attending and watching sports, and playing guitar at his church. As he looks toward retirement, his guiding principles remain clear: to meet everyone's needs as best as possible and to treat others with respect.
