Joe Lott brings nearly five decades of expertise in social work and counseling to Southeast Community Health Systems. In the realm of nonprofits, his area of responsibility spans social work, community outreach, and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

As Southeast Community Health Systems' School-Based Health Therapist, Joe works closely with students to provide compassionate mental health counseling and support services. Prior to joining Southeast Community Health Systems, Joe graduated from LSU with a BA in Sociology and a Master’s in Social Work, becoming the first Black athlete from LSU to earn a master’s degree and the first Black member of the LSU wrestling team. He began his career at The Harbor Center, where he focused on social work, and later contributed to the ARC Greater Services of Baton Rouge part-time after retiring in 2015.

Joe’s motto, inspired by a quote from D.H. Lawrence’s book, is: “At the very time I thought I was lost, the dungeon shook, and my chains fell off.” This phrase has guided him through life’s challenges. During his free time, Joe enjoys reading biographies and reflecting on history. As one of the first in his family to complete college, he exemplifies resilience and determination in all he does.
